Since ancient times, local beliefs in Japan have believed that Gods descend from the heavens using the trees and rocks on the top of mountains as their dependents. The Dashi is a symbol of the deity's descent from the heavens. They are decorated with carvings and other ornaments so that the Gods can see them as landmarks. Like shrines and temples, floats are decorated with 'Kaerumata', 'Gegyo', and various other decorative carvings that are essential to ancient architecture.
