About Shrine Temples sculpture
Although I am not as good as many of the master carvers from the Edo period to the early Showa period, such as Ishihara Ginpachi, Nami no Ipachi, Takazawa Kainosuke, Mirokuji Otohachi, Kishi Yonpachi, Ozawa Hanbei, Kenmochi Kaemon, and Teishakuten, I will continue to seek my own style by combining my father's Goto style with modern art, Buddhist statues, paintings, and various other things. I would like to create my own style of art by combining my father's Goto style with contemporary art, Buddhist statues and paintings.
I am conscious of the fact that shrine and temple sculptures are seen from one direction, not from all directions, and I carve with the sense of having a bird's eye view of the sculpture so that it can be seen from a distance. Good old sculptures have clear and sharp shadows, and can be recognized as masterpieces even from a distance.
